Ohio Speech League Speech and Debate State Competition - Ursuline High School

The Ursuline High School Speech and Debate team finished 20th out of 87 teams at the Ohio Speech League Speech and Debate State Competition held in Sylvania, Ohio March 1-3, 2018.  The team is coached by Mrs. Joan Williams.  Alex Stoneman ’19 finished second in the state in Congressional Debate.  Adam Dwinnells ’19 received “Best Presiding Officer” award in Congressional Debate.  Alex and Adam are pictured.  Mary Kate Kelty ’20 was a semifinalist in Declamation, Dan Naples ’18 was a semifinalist in Congressional Debate, Spencer Humphreys ’19 was a quarter finalist in Humor, and Riley Burke ’20 was a quarter finalist in Program Oral Interpretation.  The Ursuline Speech and Debate Team is a member of the prestigious 100 Club and has a long legacy of strong competitors.  14 members of the team qualified for the state competition.  New for the 2017-2018 school year is the Middle School Speech and Debate Team.  They compete at a later time in the state tournament.
