National Speech and Debate Tournament Results - Ursuline High School

Ursuline High School is proud to announce the results of the National Forensic League Speech and Debate Finals held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida June 18 – 22, 2018.  Four members of the Ursuline Speech and Debate Team qualified for this prestigious competition.  Alex Stoneman ’19 and Adam (Buddy) Dwinnells ’19 finished 22nd and 23rd respectively in the Congressional Debate Category.  Dan Naples ’18 also competed in World Debate and finished in the Top 64.  Spencer Humphreys ’19 competed in the Humorous Interpretation Category.  The Ursuline Speech and Debate Team has a long history of success.  The team has been named to the Top 100 Club.  This club awards “outstanding commitment to teaching students essential life skills—including communication, research, listening, writing, and organization,” according to the National Speech and Debate Association.  The only way to become a part of the elite organization is to win 100 or more awards in the past calendar year, which is not an easy feat. The 100 Club puts Ursuline in the top 10% of schools involved in speech and debate in the nation. In addition to the national qualifiers, Ursuline qualified 14 members of the team to the Ohio State Speech and Debate Finals.  The team is coached by Mrs. Joan Williams and several assistant coaches.
