Ursuline High School’s Merici Med Prep Program recently connected with the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic to virtually participate in live cardiac rounds at the hospital.  US News and World Report have ranked The Cleveland Clinic the #1 hospital in the country for cardiac care.
The panel walked through a case of a 67-year-old man who had a thoracic aortic aneurysm surgery. The panel showed clips of the surgery and explained what was happening throughout and how the aortic dissection was repaired.  They gave the statistic that Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms were the cause of death in 9904 people in the USA in 2019.
The Clinic was represented with a scrub tech, a scrub nurse, a physicians assistant, a perfusionist, and a cardiothoracic surgeon on the panel talking with the students. They went over the Education, Median Pay, Job Outlook, and Educational Affiliates around the Cleveland area. This panel also mentioned that they are members of the transplant team for heart and lung transplants.
