Ursuline High School’s 113th Commencement will be held Sunday, May 30 at Stambaugh Auditorium beginning at 4:00 p.m. The speaker will be Father J. Patrick Manning, Ph.D., Professor of Historical Theology and Church History; Saint Mary’s Seminary and Graduate School of Theology. Mrs. Mary Fiala, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Youngstown, will be a special guest and Mr. Matthew Sammartino, Principal, will award diplomas to the 94 graduates.
Academic Excellence Awards will be presented to the top graduates of the Ursuline Class of 2021. Luke Martinucci is the Valedictorian with a grade point average of 4.69 on a 4.0 scale. Keila Cortes will be honored as the Salutatorian with a grade point average of 4.59 on a 4.0 scale
Luke Martinucci is the son of Dr. Patrick and Mrs. Amy Martinucci. Luke is the oldest of 3 children in the Martinucci Family. Luke’s brother, Max, is a member of the Ursuline Class of 2025 and his brother Carson attends Holy Family School. Luke is a graduate of The Lewis Center for Gifted Learning and is a member of Holy Family Parish in Poland, Ohio. During his time at Ursuline, Luke was involved with many student activities. He was the Varsity Captain of the championship winning Quiz Bowl Team, served on the Crew for the Ursuline Theatre, and served his community and school through his participation in Students of Stewardship and Student Ambassadors, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Luke is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned the accolades of both AP Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction. He is also the recipient of the Chonko-DelBene Chemistry Award and the Lisa Higgins – Hussman Achievement Award. Luke will be attending Denison University in the fall to study Biology or Biochemistry with the intentions of becoming a physician.
Keila Cortes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carlos and Lori Cortes. Keila’s sister, Adamaris, is a member of the Ursuline Class of 2019 and her younger sister, Leeanna, attends Saint Rose School. Keila is a member of Saint Patrick Church in Hubbard, Ohio and attended Saint Patrick and Saint Rose for elementary school. Keila has been very involved during her time at Ursuline. She is a member of the Executive Board for both the Speech and Debate Team and the Ursuline Theatre Department. She has served as the President of the Spanish Club and was elected to The Executive Board for the Ursuline Student Council. Keila is a member of National Honor Society. She has been active in Students of Stewardship and Student Ambassadors. Keila also volunteers her time as a peer tutor, a vacation Bible School counselor, and Camp Fitch counselor. Keila plans to attend The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio to study Biology / Pre-Med. Keila intends to become a physician.
The Awards Assembly will be held on Thursday, May 27 beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Baccalaureate Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint Columba Cathedral on Friday, May 28 at 6:20 p.m. Bishop David Bonnar will be the Presider and the Homilist at the Mass. Bishop Bonnar will be joined by Ursuline President, Father Richard Murphy, and pastors of the senior class. Following the Baccalaureate Liturgy, the graduates will be guests of the faculty and administration at the annual Senior Dinner Dance to be held at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Hall from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Ceremony will be livestreamed and linked to the Ursuline Irish Facebook page.
