2023 marks Ursuline High School’s 119th school year of Catholic education in the Mahoning Valley. The estimated enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is 520: 255 boys and 265 girls.
All incoming Freshmen will report for orientation on Wednesday, August 16 at 7:55 A.M. until 12:10 P.M. The Freshmen will follow an abbreviated schedule to meet with all of their subject teachers. As part of the Freshmen Success Program, they will also meet their National Honor Society Mentors and will be treated to a picnic lunch on the school grounds. All transfer students will report from 10:00 A.M. until noon on Wednesday, August 16 for an orientation session and enjoy a picnic lunch at the Shrine. The opening day for all students is Thursday, August 17. 2023. Opening week also includes the Senior Class Picnic on August 18 at the UHS Shrine.
Ursuline will welcome several new staff members this year.
Taryn Courtney – holds a Bachelor’s Degree from YSU – will teach in the English Department
Syndey Hargis – holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University in both Spanish and French – will join the World Languages Department
Amy Lisi – holds a Bachelor’s Degree from YSU – will teach in the Math Department
Karlee Williams – holds a Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University – will join the English department
New to the curriculum is Astronomy and Advanced Placement Pre-Calculus. This summer renovations to the third floor (new building classrooms) which include asbestos abatement, new flooring, lighting and air conditioning. New exit doors, additional cameras and replacement doors will enhance security. Ursuline has also undertaken a major upgrade to school safety by replacing fire doors that automatically close whenever the fire alarm is activated. The total cost of these projects is $300,000.
The opening of school prayer service led by Ursuline President, Rev. Richard Murphy (’72), is scheduled for Friday, August 25 at 10:00 in the Ursuline Gym. All are welcome to attend.
