Ursuline Math Department Chairman, Mr. Mark Uerling, was selected as a 2022 Golden Apple Award Winner for the Diocese of Youngstown.  Each year 6 teachers and 1 administrator from The Diocese of Youngstown are selected for this honor.  He was nominated by Mrs. Aimee Morrison. In addition to being the Math Department Chair, Mr. Uerling advises The Math Club and Saint Patrick Engineering Club (SPEC.). Mr. Uerling is married to Ursuline Faculty Member Mrs. Nicole Uerling and they are the parents of 3 young boys.  The Uerling Family are members of Saint Christine Church.  Mr. Uerling is also an Ursuline Associate with The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown.

Through the generosity and kindness of the Donahue Family Foundation, the Golden Apple Award, already established in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, has been extended to the Diocese of Youngstown to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools. The diocese recognizes and deeply appreciates the unique charge these teachers and principals have to the development of each student. In the words of Saint John Paul II, “…teachers and educators fulfill a specific Christian vocation and share an equally specific participation in the mission of the Church, to the extent that ‘it depends chiefly on them whether the Catholic school achieves its purpose.’”
