For many years, the Leone family sponsored a writing competition named after Dom Leone, a writer and a graduate of Ursuline and YSU. Dom died of cancer in 1989. In his life, he created beautiful art in the forms of stories, poems, songs, and cartoons. The objective of the family was to inspire the students in the Mahoning Valley Diocesan schools and encourage creativity through his legacy. In 2018, the family hosted its last competition, and with their blessing, Ursuline is continuing it. Ursuline received nearly 700 entries last year. What a remarkable way to commemorate Dom and motivate young writers in the Mahoning Valley.
