SENIOR NEWSLETTER
Guidance Department

College Apps Are Due Soon! Most seniors have submitted their college applications at this time, but there are some seniors who have not yet done this. It is highly advisable to finish your college applications and request your transcripts and other required materials be sent to the college(s) of your choice. Scholarships are given on a first-come basis. Make a wise decision to do this now!
ON-LINE APPLICATIONS: Be sure to download any section for the teachers or guidance counselor to complete.
RECOMMENDATIONS: When asking a teacher or guidance counselor for a recommendation, be sure to give them a copy of your résumé. If the teacher is to send the recommendation directly to the college or university, it is nice to include an addressed envelope for them. If you want them to give the recommendation to the guidance office, instruct them to do so…do not assume they know what you want done. Let them know the date you will need to send the letter. Send them a “Thank you” note when received.
COMPLETED PAPER APPLICATION: Bring the completed application to the guidance office. A transcript will be added and any other information needed, then it will be sent directly from the school. Be sure you have signed the application, included any necessary information you need to send, plus the application fee in the form of a check or money order (no cash).
DEADLINES: BE AWARE OF DEADLINES! Deadlines vary for each college. Decide if you will apply for an early or a regular decision of acceptance.
ESSAYS: If an essay is required, please try to include a story or anecdote about a life-changing or attitude-changing experience as well as some reasons why you feel that their college will be a great “fit” for you. Use your own resume to mention some of your extracurricular activities and leadership positions. Finally, talk about your personal strengths and personality characteristics and the part they will play in reaching your goals.
