BUSINESS AND COMPUTER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
BUSINESS LAW GRADES 10 - 12 ELECTIVE .5 credit
This course is an introduction to the legal ramifications of business decisions and is designed to sharpen the students' awareness of how law and its application affect the world in which they live. Hypothetical cases and actual court cases are chosen for their interest and usefulness for class discussion and outside study.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS GRADES 9 - 10 REQUIRED .5 credit
This course is required for graduation and designed to give students an introduction to the capability and function of a computer on both the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Students will study the basic operation of the computer, learn how to use the word processing, database and spread sheet functions of Microsoft Works, and learn the basics of Power Point. Students will develop basic skill in keyboarding to input data swiftly and accurately. Students will learn how to access various educational sites on the Internet for research and will become acquainted with the legal and ethical issues surrounding the use of technology. Students will also be introduced to various college search, scholarship and career programs that are available to them on software purchased for their use by the school.
ADVANCED APPLICATIONS GRADES 10-12 ELECTIVE .5 credit
This course is designed to further students' knowledge and skill in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. Students will use Windows based applications and have the opportunity to access and utilize programs and data online. Students will complete projects using the Internet and the advanced features of Power Point.
PREREQUISITE: COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
DESKTOP PUBLISHING GRADES 11-12 ELECTIVE .5 credit
This course will teach students the process of designing and producing a publication with a personal computer using the PageMaker program. Skills developed in this course will enable students to create banners, flyers, newsletters, greeting cards, calendars, advertisements, newspapers, booklets and other handout material. Students will also utilize the digital camera and scanner in their projects.
